Dr Tom KuruvillaOtolaryngologist, Head and Neck Surgeon, Christchurch, NZ
I started solo private practice in 2001, joining 2 colleagues for a group practice in 2003, before slowly amalgamating 8 ENT surgeons in Christchurch to join forces and construct a purpose-built ENT centre in 2007. I was the driving force regarding architecture and construction of our 3-story building which housed ENT on the top floor and affiliated specialists downstairs. We had our own minor procedures room and fulltime nurse. We had on site full diagnostic audiology with Hearing Advantage and our own miniCAT cone beam CT scanner to provide same day imaging.
I have been the ENT representative for a mix of Surgical groups forming Forte Health, a new Short Stay Hospital in Christchurch with 4 Operating Theatres and Ward and Day Stay. I have served on the Governance, ICT and Hospital Board meetings on behalf of my colleagues. The Hospital opened in January 2014. I was again involved with the design and construction of Forte2, a specialist, 3 story building next to Forte Health Hospital, where we duplicated the formula that was successful with our first rooms and now have all the ENT surgeons in Christchurch on our floor. We have a full radiology service including MRI and Hi Res Cone Beam CT and a pharmacy. Southern Clinical Trials group moved onto our floor also who I am involved with regularly for research trials underway. I enjoy Christchurch with its mix of geography allowing winter sports and summer sports to be done on the same day! I love any sport on the water that involves foiling, snowboarding and snow kiting, and of course golf. |
