Dr Julian White
President, NZSOHNS
I completed training in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery in New Zealand in 2005, then undertook two Fellowships in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery, including in free flap reconstructive surgery, in Canada before settling in Hamilton in late 2007.
I have served as Honorary Secretary of the Society from 2013 to 2015, and as Clinical Director/Head of Department at Waikato DHB from 2016 to February 2022, during which I oversaw a period of great personnel change. In 2018 and 2019 I shifted the focus of my public practice from Head & Neck Surgery towards Paediatric ENT, including undertaking a sabbatical at Starship, Evelina and Great Ormond Street Hospitals, while maintaining interests in salivary surgery and adult laryngology. I have been the Society’s representative on the RACS Post-Fellowship Education and Training committee, and a member of the Professional Advisory Group of the Sexually Transmitted Infections Education Foundation and NZ HPV Project. In recent years I have undertaken locums in Tauranga and Whangārei, taught on courses in Auckland, and visited colleagues at work in Christchurch and Dunedin. As a health service and a Society we face several challenges, but there are also some opportunities, particularly with the advent of Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora. I am active in both the public and private health sectors, and have a history of positive engagement within and between organisations and individuals. |
